According to the Quran, these men were among the early followers of Prophet Jesus While some variations exist, the genera l account suggests that these men slept in the cave for over 300 years. During their slumber, the sun shone upon them in a way that made it appear as if they were still alive, and their dog guarded the entrance to prevent anyone from entering. When they finally awoke, they believed that only a day or two had passed. However, upon returning to the city to purchase food, they discovered that the Roman Empire had converted to Christianity long ago, and their outdated clothing and currency attracted attention.
